Valmet, a leading provider of process technologies, automation, and services for the pulp, paper, and energy industries, has been commissioned to deliver a new digester top separator to Södra Cell's Mönsterås Mill in Sweden.
The order, which contributes to Valmet's first-quarter 2024 orders received, is valued but undisclosed, with delivery scheduled for October 2024.
Södra Cell opted for this investment following a comprehensive mechanical lifecycle analysis conducted by Valmet during the mill's annual shutdown in 2022. The new digester top separator is poised to extend the lifespan of the digester originally installed in 1979.
Johan Carlstroem, Maintenance Engineer at Södra Mönsterås, emphasized the importance of maintaining machinery to ensure a safe working environment and enhance operational performance. He credited Valmet's lifecycle analysis for facilitating timely renewal of the digester top separator, thereby enhancing safety and reliability.
Mattias Carlsson, Product Sales Manager, Pulp Solutions, EMEA at Valmet, expressed satisfaction with Södra Cell's selection of Valmet as the supplier for the top separator replacement. He highlighted that renewing components at the end of their lifecycle not only enhances mill safety but also streamlines daily maintenance, thanks to the modern design of the new top separator, which enables the use of standardized spare parts across the mill's digesters.
Valmet's delivery encompasses a new digester top separator featuring modern design for the mill's digester 4. This renewal initiative aims to prolong the digester's lifespan and bolster overall safety at the mill.
Södra Cell stands as a global leader in paper pulp and dissolving pulp production. With three cutting-edge pulp mills boasting a combined annual production capacity of 1.9 million tons, the Mönsterås Mill represents Södra's largest facility, capable of producing 750,000 tonnes per year of softwood and hardwood pulp. Beyond pulp production, the mill also plays a significant role in generating green electricity.
