Molded fiber is packaging formed from a water-based slurry of cellulose fibers — recycled paper, corrugated offcuts, or virgin bagasse — vacuum-formed over a screened tool, then dried and hot-pressed. The result is a rigid, three-dimensional structure that cushions like foam but is 100% paper: recyclable in the paper stream, home-compostable, and made largely from post-industrial waste.

How does it compare? Molded pulp is the broader commercial term — the two materials are made by the same process and are often used interchangeably; "molded pulp" is the more common purchasing term, while "molded fiber" emphasizes the fiber engineering side. Against corrugated cardboard, molded fiber wins on complex 3D shapes, cushioning and unit packing density; corrugated wins on flat panels and box walls. Against EPS foam, molded fiber matches most cushioning curves at equal wall thickness and carries none of the end-of-life problems.

Our engineering team tunes fiber blend, slurry consistency, tool screen and pressing temperature to hit your drop-test and stacking targets. Ready to source instead of study? Browse our production-ready molded pulp packaging programs or send your specifications.
