Containers from fast-growing fiber: what changes in the tool
A container is a tray with walls high enough and rigid enough to hold product on its own, and that requirement changes how the part has to be moulded: draft angle, wall uniformity and rim stiffness all start to matter more than cavity detail.
We press containers from fast-growing fiber sources - wheat and rice straw, grasses, palm, cotton, coconut shell and bagasse - blended to hit the stiffness the container needs. Agricultural residue fiber is short and cheap; it makes an economical wall for shallow, high-volume containers, while bagasse or bamboo carries the longer fiber needed for tall walls and heavier contents.
- Rim design - a rolled or flat rim that resists ovalisation when a full container is lifted by one corner.
- Wall uniformity from the draw, since a thin patch in a pressed wall is where a container tears.
- Lidding options - fiber lid, a moulded ledge that takes film, or a shoulder that accepts a carton sleeve.
- Nesting and denesting geometry for automatic filling lines.
Containers can be dry pressed for cost or wet pressed for a smooth, food-facing surface, and both keep the container in the paper stream at end of life. A: Yes. Our food-grade molded fiber trays are produced from virgin plant fiber and comply with food-contact requirements. Please tell us your destination market when requesting a quotation, and we will confirm the applicable compliance documents (for example FDA or EU 1935/2004).
Q: Are your molded fiber food trays PFAS-free?
A: Yes. We offer PFAS-free, plastic-free molded fiber trays with water and oil resistance achieved through fiber selection and forming process, rather than fluorochemical coatings.
Q: Can you produce trays in custom shapes and compartment layouts?
A: Yes. We custom-mold trays to your product dimensions and required compartment layout, based on your 3D drawing or physical sample. Samples are provided for approval before mass production.
