Thermoformed trays: smooth walls where detail matters
Thermoforming is the fiber process that gets closest to a moulded-plastic finish. After the fiber is drawn onto the tool, a heated press pass compacts the surface, which produces a thinner, denser, smoother wall and sharper cavity definition than either dry pressing or plain wet pressing.
When it is worth the extra process step:
- Small, detailed parts - earbuds, wearables, small electronics where cavity edges need to be crisp and repeatable.
- Visible surfaces - retail inserts and gift trays where the tray is seen before the product is.
- Tight dimensional tolerance for automated placement, or where a tray has to fit a rigid box with little clearance.
- Thin sections where wall thickness itself is the cost driver.
The material stays fiber throughout, so a thermoformed tray keeps the same disposal route as any other pulp tray while looking closer to a moulded plastic insert than buyers expect. Tooling and light-tolerance work are done on our own equipment with in-house engineering, so the process can be tuned against your product rather than accepting a stock wall thickness.

A: Lead time is generally 15-25 days after sample approval, depending on order quantity and technical difficulty. The exact schedule is confirmed together with your order.
Q: Is molded fiber packaging safe for direct food contact?
A: Yes. Our food-grade molded fiber trays are produced from virgin plant fiber and comply with food-contact requirements. Please tell us your destination market when requesting a quotation, and we will confirm the applicable compliance documents (for example FDA or EU 1935/2004).
Q: Are your molded fiber food trays PFAS-free?
A: Yes. We offer PFAS-free, plastic-free molded fiber trays with water and oil resistance achieved through fiber selection and forming process, rather than fluorochemical coatings.
Q: Can you produce trays in custom shapes and compartment layouts?
A: Yes. We custom-mold trays to your product dimensions and required compartment layout, based on your 3D drawing or physical sample. Samples are provided for approval before mass production.
