PulPac Partners with Nippon Molding, Expanding Dry Molded Fiber Production in Japan

PulPac, the creator of Dry Molded Fiber technology, has recently announced its first licensee in Japan, Nippon Molding. This strategic partnership marks the expansion of Dry Molded Fiber production into Asia. Nippon Molding has placed an order for the PulPac Modula machine from TechTribe, a Swedish supplier of industrial automation solutions.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to swiftly enter the Japanese packaging market with Dry Molded Fiber products, starting with coffee lids and food trays. Sanna Fager, PulPac's chief commercial officer, expresses their ambition to establish Dry Molded Fiber as a global standard for economically and environmentally sustainable packaging, aiming to reduce reliance on single-use plastics.

PulPac's business model relies on partnerships and collaboration, empowering other converters to adopt their innovative approach. Nippon Molding, with its expertise in molded fiber and extensive experience producing egg trays for the poultry industry in Japan, shares PulPac's vision of utilizing limited resources effectively. They are now expanding their offerings by embracing Dry Molded Fiber.

Nippon Molding, known for its sustainability focus, efficiency, and high-quality packaging solutions, will now integrate Dry Molded Fiber technology into their manufacturing process, replacing other pulp materials. Takehiro Ishihara, the general manager of Nippon Molding, believes that making this revolutionary fiber-forming technology available to customers will contribute to a greener society in Japan.

Dry Molded Fiber, an invention patented and licensed by PulPac, provides a cost-effective and resource-efficient alternative to traditional fiber molding and single-use plastics. PulPac's network of partners supplies turn-key machine solutions based on the PulPac Modula platform, facilitating rapid technology scaling.

PulPac highlights the significance of the Asian market, particularly Japan, which generates a substantial amount of the world's petrochemical plastics and faces challenges related to plastic waste due to extensive packaging usage. PulPac's fiber solutions can aid Japan in achieving its plastic reduction goals. Fager explains that Japanese regulations require businesses producing five metric tons or more of plastic products per year to reduce their usage. By offering competitive fiber-based alternatives, PulPac aims to support the shift toward sustainable packaging solutions.

In addition to the partnership with Nippon Molding, PulPac has expanded its presence in other regions. SustainaPac, a licensee in North America, aims to introduce Dry Molded Fiber technology to the quick-service restaurant market, providing highly economical natural fiber and single-use foodservice packaging products. PulPac has also collaborated with PA Consulting to launch the Bottle Collective, a joint initiative showcasing a fiber bottle made using Dry Molded Fiber technology, with the aim of minimizing the use of single-use plastic bottles.
