Food-contact salad bowl trays
A salad bowl tray is a food-contact part before it is a packaging part. It is also an unusually demanding one: the tray holds a wet, oily, sometimes hot product with dressing, and it has to look presentable on a counter while doing it. HESHENG (CSL) molds pulp trays for salad bowls and comparable prepared-food formats.
What we specify on food-service trays:
- Food-grade fiber - virgin bagasse rather than recycled stock, so the tray meets food-contact expectations and has a consistent off-white tone under food.
- PFAS-free performance - no fluorinated chemistry and no plastic or wax coating, which keeps the tray eligible for paper recycling and commercial composting.
- Bowl seating - a molded ring or recess sized to the bowl base diameter, so a loaded bowl does not slide when the tray is carried one-handed.
- Ventilation and drainage - molded slots for steam and condensation where the food is served hot or the tray is used for cold-chain display.
- Lid or lidless - open tray for counter service, or a matching pressed lid for delivery and retail.
Pressed (thermoformed) trays give a smooth wall that presents food cleanly and resists the cutlery pressure of a takeaway service; transfer-molded trays suit formats where a more textured, natural surface is wanted. Either way, the finished tray is paper: recyclable after use, compostable if the collection system allows.

Q: Is molded fiber packaging safe for direct food contact?
A: Yes. Our food-grade molded fiber trays are produced from virgin plant fiber and comply with food-contact requirements. Please tell us your destination market when requesting a quotation, and we will confirm the applicable compliance documents (for example FDA or EU 1935/2004).
Q: Are your molded fiber food trays PFAS-free?
A: Yes. We offer PFAS-free, plastic-free molded fiber trays with water and oil resistance achieved through fiber selection and forming process, rather than fluorochemical coatings.
Q: Can you produce trays in custom shapes and compartment layouts?
A: Yes. We custom-mold trays to your product dimensions and required compartment layout, based on your 3D drawing or physical sample. Samples are provided for approval before mass production.
