UPM will replace fossil fuels with electric boilers in heat and steam production at its mills in Finland and Germany. The eight boilers to be installed will mainly replace natural gas, and will improve security of supply and reduce emissions. The move is part of UPM's 2030 target to reduce CO2 emissions from fuels and purchased electricity by 65%. The first 50 MW electric boiler has already been commissioned, and the remaining boilers will be installed by the end of 2023. This initiative will significantly reduce emissions at the mills and help UPM achieve its renewable and responsible solutions goals.
