Joint Efforts By Kao, SCG Chemicals, And Dow Thailand Group Pave The Way For Innovative, Recyclable Packaging

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Kao has forged partnerships with leading chemical companies SCG Chemicals and Dow Thailand Group to pioneer the development of eco-friendly packaging solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, attended by key figures including Kao Thailand President Yuji Shimizu, SCGC Executive Director Pisan Uawithya, and Dow Thailand President Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai, marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable packaging options.

Expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration, Yuji Shimizu stated, "Kao is delighted to partner with leading chemical companies such as SCGC and Dow to jointly develop innovations for sustainable packaging based on the 4R principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Replace. This aligns with our ESG strategy, known as the 'Kirei Lifestyle Plan.'"

Shimizu emphasized Kao's commitment to achieving Zero Carbon Emission by 2040, highlighting the company's dedication to addressing global warming and climate change. He outlined Kao's comprehensive approach, focusing on energy conservation in production plants and product design and development throughout the product lifecycle to minimize carbon emissions. Furthermore, Kao has set a target to achieve net zero waste plastic packaging by 2040, making partnerships with experts like Dow and SCGC crucial in realizing environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

Pisan Uawithya of SCGC shared insights into their goal of creating sustainable packaging for Kao's products, emphasizing the promotion of efficient resource use in alignment with the circular economy principle within Thailand.

Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai of Dow Thailand Group echoed the commitment to reducing carbon emissions and plastic waste, stating, "We are pleased to support Kao in the design and development of flexible packaging with key sustainability benefits." Leveraging Dow's expertise and innovative plastics such as INNATE, ELITE, DOWLEX, and Dow PCR (REVOLOOP), the collaboration aims to create packaging that prioritizes recyclability, minimizes environmental impact, and meets consumer needs.

The MoU signifies a strategic partnership aimed at developing new materials and employing innovative technologies to design and produce packaging for Kao brands. Both rigid (bottle) and flexible (bag) packaging solutions are envisaged, promising to maintain excellent product protection properties while providing consumer convenience.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step for Kao in achieving its sustainability goals, including carbon neutrality by 2050. SCGC and Dow's commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation aligns seamlessly with the collective mission to offer more sustainable choices for Thai consumers.
