From drawing to tooling: how a custom pulp pack gets made
Custom pulp packaging is not ordered from a catalogue - it is derived from your product. The work that decides whether the result is good happens in the first two weeks, between the drawing you send and the tool we cut.
How a custom programme runs at HESHENG (CSL):
- Fit review. We take your CAD file or a physical sample, identify the load-bearing surfaces, and decide which faces must stay cosmetic. That choice drives the cavity geometry more than any other.
- Drawdown and prototype. A tool is cut and a small run of parts is drawn, so you can seat your product in a real shell before committing to production. Wall thickness, draft and nesting are checked here.
- Material choice. Bagasse for food contact and a clean white finish, recycled kraft for industrial work and darker tones, or a blend where cushioning needs to be tuned.
- Assembly logic. Whether the pack is a single tray, a two-piece top-and-bottom set, or a foldable flat-shipped insert, decided against your packing line rather than our press.
- Production. Tooling takes 7–15 days; production runs 15–25 days after sample approval, in Dongguan or Ho Chi Minh City.

Q: Are you a manufacturer or trading company?
A: We are a manufacturer founded in Hong Kong in 2013, with two production bases in Dongguan, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and a total manufacturing area of 26,000 square meters. You are welcome to visit or audit our factory.
Q: What is your MOQ for custom molded fiber packaging?
A: Our standard MOQ is 10,000 pieces per design. If your project requires a different quantity, contact us at info@csl-packaging.com and we will review the options with you.
Q: What is the production lead time?
A: Lead time is generally 15-25 days after sample approval, depending on order quantity and technical difficulty. The exact schedule is confirmed together with your order.
Q: Is molded fiber packaging safe for direct food contact?
A: Yes. Our food-grade molded fiber trays are produced from virgin plant fiber and comply with food-contact requirements. Please tell us your destination market when requesting a quotation, and we will confirm the applicable compliance documents (for example FDA or EU 1935/2004).
Q: Are your molded fiber food trays PFAS-free?
A: Yes. We offer PFAS-free, plastic-free molded fiber trays with water and oil resistance achieved through fiber selection and forming process, rather than fluorochemical coatings.
Q: Can you produce trays in custom shapes and compartment layouts?
A: Yes. We custom-mold trays to your product dimensions and required compartment layout, based on your 3D drawing or physical sample. Samples are provided for approval before mass production.
