[China Packaging Network News] With the increasing prosperity of e-commerce in India, there are more and more express parcels, and the carton industry is also drenched. Today, the express industry generally uses high-performance corrugated boxes to package and express goods. In the next five years, 10% of orders in the Indian carton industry will come from e-commerce companies.

Today, TV advertisements on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart.com, Jabong.com, etc., highlight one important item: the corrugated box for express delivery. Corrugated boxes seem to be the hallmark of India's e-commerce boom.

In a recent Amazon TV commercial, a carton of merchandise was delivered from a distribution center to a sports venue, the box was opened, a cricket ball was pulled out, and a cricket game started happily; In Jabong's TV commercial, people cheered as the courier arrived at the door with a cardboard box. On the carton, the Jabong company logo and name are clearly visible.

Arun Chandra Mohan, co-founder of Jabong, said: "The TV commercial aims to tell viewers that we are an e-commerce company, and at the same time tell consumers that we will offer a range of home delivery services. This is a means of brand promotion.

The boxes that e-commerce companies use to deliver their goods have gotten better and more durable in recent years, and a range of items from small items to valuables can be delivered in cartons. Carton makers say that the price of a carton varies from around Rs 3 for a small carton for a mobile phone, to around Rs 30 for a carton that can hold a large toy or a carton for valuables such as cameras and jewellery. Industry insiders believe that as e-commerce takes root in the Indian market, the business of these carton merchants will become more and more prosperous.

According to Kirit Modi, chairman of the Indian Corrugated Box Manufacturers Association, in the next five years, 10% of the orders of carton manufacturers will come from e-commerce companies. The Indian carton market is currently worth $4 billion and will grow by 10% annually over the next few years.

Kirit Modi's own pyramid packaging company supplies cartons of various sizes to Flipkart, a local e-commerce platform in India, and is in talks with Amazon about cooperation.

Amazon India declined to disclose its shipments in India, though Amazon said half of its products were packaged in 20 different sizes of corrugated boxes. Amazon currently has about three to five carton suppliers in India, and these carton factories are located around Amazon’s fulfillment centers in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Flipkart, India's largest e-commerce platform, said that 60% of its products are packaged in 40 different sizes of corrugated boxes. At present, there are about 20 carton suppliers.

Previously, Flipkart mainly sourced cartons from small carton factories. Today, it delivers more than 5 million orders a month, and the number of orders is growing rapidly. In this case, Flipkart will seek to cooperate with well-known manufacturers to obtain a stable supply of cartons. New Delhi carton maker Meghdoot Packaging received its first order from Flipkart last month, supplying it with 120-150 cartons per month. Today, Flipkart has become the carton factory's largest customer, pushing Nestlé into second place.

In the past few years, due to the recession in India, the business of the carton factory has also suffered. Today, with the rise of e-commerce, the demand for cartons has increased greatly, which is a major positive news for the carton industry. At present, the growth rate of the carton industry is about 1.5 times the growth rate of GDP. It had grown at a rate of 10 percent three years ago, but has slowed down as the economy slumped. However, with the increasing prosperity of e-commerce, the carton industry will also usher in a spring of vitality.

For more than half a century, corrugated boxes have gradually replaced wooden boxes and other transportation packaging containers with their superior performance and good processing performance, and have become the main force of transportation packaging. In addition to protecting commodities, facilitating storage and transportation, it also plays a role in beautifying and promoting commodities. Corrugated boxes are green and environmentally friendly products, which are conducive to environmental protection and loading, unloading and transportation.
