January 22, 2024 - PAPACKS and EURO-CAPS, after more than five years of collaboration, proudly announce a groundbreaking achievement in the sustainable packaging industry. Their jointly developed coffee capsule, crafted from renewable, FSC®-certified materials, marks a significant advancement in sustainability, minimizing waste on a large scale while optimizing resource utilization.
The innovative fiber-based coffee capsules, resistant to oil and water, not only preserve the freshness of coffee but also ensure seamless compatibility with capsule coffee machines. This breakthrough significantly reduces environmental impact, aligning perfectly with principles of social responsibility and the circular economy.
We are thrilled to announce that PAPACKS and EURO-CAPS have been honored with the prestigious WorldStar Packaging Award 2024 by the World Packaging Organization (WPO). This accolade underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability and uncompromising quality standards.
By expanding our portfolio to include additional compatible capsule models, EURO-CAPS and PAPACKS are pioneering the industrial-scale production of fiber-based coffee capsules. This initiative aims to drastically reduce the consumption of plastic and aluminum capsules, addressing the pressing issue of waste accumulation. According to calculations by the German Environmental Aid (DUH), Germans consumed a staggering 3.4 billion coffee capsules in 2019, resulting in a mountain of waste weighing approximately 13,500 tons.
The joint development process involved a team of experts from both companies, ensuring the flawless performance and environmental superiority of the final product. The capsules, boasting oil and water resistance properties without any plastic or aluminum content, have been registered for international design patent by the World Intellectual Property Organization.
