A clamshell that is fiber all the way through
Most "sustainable" clamshells sold today are still plastic - just a different plastic, or a plastic with a bio-based label. A molded fiber clamshell is a different starting point: it is one material, formed from cellulose fiber, and it ends its life in the paper recycling stream or a home compost bin rather than a specialist collection point.
What that means in practice:
- Single material - no film window, no adhesive, no laminated coating to separate before recycling.
- Paper-stream recyclable - accepted with cardboard and newspaper in most municipal systems, so the consumer does not need new instructions.
- Home compostable - fiber breaks down in a garden compost pile; a claim PCR plastic cannot make even when it is technically recyclable.
- Plastic-free by construction - there is no plastic component to exclude or add back later.
Performance-wise a fiber clamshell takes the same hits a thermoformed plastic one does: it stacks, it protects a product through a courier journey, and it closes with a molded hinge that needs no metal or adhesive. Where the trade-off sits is in optical clarity - fiber is opaque, so it suits brands selling an unboxing experience rather than a visible product behind a window.

Q: Is molded fiber packaging safe for direct food contact?
A: Yes. Our food-grade molded fiber trays are produced from virgin plant fiber and comply with food-contact requirements. Please tell us your destination market when requesting a quotation, and we will confirm the applicable compliance documents (for example FDA or EU 1935/2004).
Q: Are your molded fiber food trays PFAS-free?
A: Yes. We offer PFAS-free, plastic-free molded fiber trays with water and oil resistance achieved through fiber selection and forming process, rather than fluorochemical coatings.
Q: Can you produce trays in custom shapes and compartment layouts?
A: Yes. We custom-mold trays to your product dimensions and required compartment layout, based on your 3D drawing or physical sample. Samples are provided for approval before mass production.
