Heinzel Group has been forced to suspend production of SC paper on paper machine PM 10 at its Laakirchen mill in Austria due to a fire incident. The fire originated in the press section of PM 10, which has remained inactive since the incident.

Around 250 firefighters were called to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire overnight on Thursday. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently under investigation.

Laakirchen Papier operates two paper machines with a combined production capacity of 540,000 tonnes per year of SC paper. PM 10 has a production capacity of 255,000 tonnes per year, while PM 11, with a capacity of 285,000 tonnes per year, remains unaffected by the fire and will continue its scheduled production of SC paper, as confirmed by the company.

Heinzel Group acquired the Laakirchen SC paper mill from SCA in April 2014. The deal also involved a sales and marketing cooperation with SCA Forest Products and the acquisition of recovered paper merchant Bunzl & Biach.
